Tribute to Former Instrument Maker

William Davy was a violin maker in Bolton from around the turn of the 20th century, described as producing instruments of “grand rich and of mellow tone,” he practiced his skill in a small workshop on Churchbank, on almost the same site as our current instrument repair workshop resides.

The William Davy name has always been a point of interest for various generations of the Booths Music team and we thought it was high time the brand name was rekindled. As a fitting tribute to the man himself, we have begun to develop new quality string instruments of significance with the William Davy brand, (inspired by a prized possession of ours, the first cello he made back in 1911). Every one of these new instruments has been specifically sourced and individually hand-finished and to play at its optimum best. Certified and dated, we hope it will be recognised as a sign of individuality and give confidence and assurance to prospective buyers.
