Described as producing instruments of grand rich and of mellow tone, William Davy was a Bolton-based violin maker from the early 1900s. Davy in fact practised his skill in a small room along Churchbank in the town centre on almost the exact same site as our current repair workshop.
The locality of the William Davy workshop and the history surrounding the man himself has naturally been a point of interest for various generations of the Booths Music team; in 2015 we thought it was high time the brand name was rekindled. As a fitting tribute to the man himself, we have begun to develop new quality string instruments of significance with the William Davy brand, (inspired by a prized possession of ours, the first cello he made back in 1911).
Specifically sourced and individually hand-finished in the Booths workshop, it is our goal to put the final touches to quality violins in order to bring such instruments to their optimum best. Certified and dated, we hope it will be recognised as a sign of individuality and give confidence and assurance to prospective buyers.
