So today’s historic Booth’s Music photo is of Chris Porter in the mid 80’s having a play on this typically pointy Jackson upstairs in the guitar department. Who remembers visiting the shop and being served by or jamming with Chris at this time?
There were all sorts of elaborate guitars around at this time. Visitors to Booth’s would have seen so many wacky shapes and bright colours, including a number with custom one-off airbrushed finishes. In fact, the Jackson guitar in this picture featured a spider web pattern on the body, a spider design was added to it later. If any customers still have any of these models, we would love to hear from you.

The intro solo from that song is one of the classiest solos Petrucci has ever written. Tasteful.
Riff Life 🎸🎼👊
Here we have another classic Booth’s Music photo with Trevor Aspinall handling a Jackson Warrior. This was taken during the "Castle" period upstairs in the guitar department, at some point in the early 1990’s.
How many of you guys visited the shop around this time and remember the decor?
Tony has hundreds of nostalgic photos like this that span the last century or so – stay posted to all our social media for more, we will be posting regular images with any relevant tales.

Do you own a guitar, or other instrument, that has been bought at Booth’s Music over the years that has an interesting or funny story connected with it?
Tony is currently compiling material for a book discussing the varied history of Booth’s Music. There are lots of really poignant stories and anecdotes to mention, and we do sometimes here from customers about guitars that have been purchased here over the decades that have been played on stage by a famous person or perhaps just have a humorous tale attached.
Some guitars that were sold here during the 1960’s have an ornate "Booth’s Music" transfer on the back of the headstock, and we love to see these when customers drop them in for setups. We have also got a photograph that a gentlemen sent in to us of a guitar that was bought here in 1910!
Should you have anything of interest that you would like to share with us, please call down and visit us in the shop or feel free to send a message to any of our social media profiles.

Many hours spent at that counter on a Saturday afternoon in the early 90s. Wonderful Times.
My first ever guitar was one of those with the little blue Booths transfer on the back of the headstock, a full sized classical, wish I still had it I cut my teeth on that bad boy. I remember on Xmas day when I got it the top 3 strings were out of tune and my brother realised if you played them twice in a row it sounded like the beginning of Fear Of The Dark, I was proper jealous. I spent the next few years stalking Chris and Tony, would come in and buy a plectrum then sit there for hours absorbing the guitar department until Trev kicked me out 😂Good days good days 🎸🎵
I bought my first ukulele at booths many years ago, I was quiet exited, had no idea how to use it though and did the man thing of not reading the tuning instructions…. Well I tuned it to eadg… Just up an octave… Needless to say I ended up snapping the neck straight in half!
Our good friends at Tanglewood Guitars have sent us some nice new goodies, including some of their usual best-selling models and a BRAND NEW "Auld Trinity" model.
Call down and visit us instore any time and have a browse or a try of any of our guitars.
